Read about the fantastic performers that we have at Richard Brown Music. Covering a wide array of musical genres, these musicians will make your special event one to remember.
Richard Brown enjoys a multi- faceted career as an educator, professional musician and a businessman. He is Professor of Percussion at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music as well as Principal Percussionist of both The Houston Grand Opera and Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestras. He leads the Richard Brown Orchestra, one of Houston's most popular dance bands that play large social galas, special events and weddings.
Richard began his musical career at the age of 18 playing with The Chamber Symphony of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Lyric Opera. After his stint with The United States Army Band, in Washington DC, he moved to Houston to join The Houston Symphony, a position he held for 8 years. To pursue another facet of his musical interests he moved to New York City as a freelance percussionist working on Broadway, playing such shows as West Side Story, Showboat, and Shirley MacLaine, as well as working in the recording studios and subbing with The Metropolitan Opera and The New York Philharmonic. During that time he also began working for Ann Margret performing with her for 15 years in all her live shows, both in Las Vegas and on tour.
In 1985 Richard returned to Houston when The Shepherd School appointed him as full time Professor of Percussion. He then began to play regularly with The Houston Symphony and appreciates the 12 years he spent working with Christoph Eschenbach. He became the personnel manager for The Grand Teton Music Festival and soon to follow for The Houston Grand Opera Orchestra. This led him to an interest in the business of music and eventually he created Richard Brown Music, a company that hires musicians for most of Houston's freelance concerts and several of the area's prominent churches. He is proud to say that in any given year he offers over 2000 employment opportunities to Houston's professional musicians.
The variety of all these activities keeps Richard busy, but he always finds time to be available to and a mentor for his students who come to the Shepherd School to study and prepare for careers as professional percussionists.
Working on his third career (at last count), movie star handsome Bob Luna has added "Crooner" to his lengthy resume. Relatively new to the big band scene, he has found a home with the Richard Brown Orchestra, while staying highly visible in television commercials and industrial films.
Of course he maintains his original careers in the Houston fitness and restaurant industries - truly a renaissance man.
Look out Marc Anthony!

Lori Michelle has shared the stage with numerous talented local artist as well as nationally recognized performers, such as Ben Vereen in a recent revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. Other theater credits include: Nunsense, the title role in Aida, Beehive the 60's Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Footloose.

Born and raised in one of the most difficult parts of Mexico City, Evelyn Rubio continues to rise to the challenge of solidifying her blues credentials. She's got it, paid some dues and is now ready to step out front with her command of the stage, smooth and explosive vocals and sax (alto, tenor, soprano). At the age of nine, Evelyn began her professional theater and television careers. In between school and performing, she pursued dance and music and at age fifteen was supporting her family singing with live bands of all genres.
Later, Evelyn took up the saxophone and songwriting, music recording and appeared in numerous television commercials and toured in a lead role of Jesus Christ Superstar with a Canadian production. Over the next 5 years she divided her time between a 10 piece black tie orchestra in Mexico City and a rocking blues band (Chivo Azul) in Playa del Carmen.
In the U.S. only a month, Evelyn signed a multiyear recording deal with Calvin Owens on the Sawdust Alley label. Mr. Owens was B.B. King's band leader for many years, lead trumpet, composer and arranger of the Grammy winning album (Blues "N" Jazz) on the MCA Record Label, 1983. Mr. Owens produced an album on Evelyn's album (Evelyn Rubio La Mujer que Canta Blues) on the Sawdust Alley Label. Unfortunately, the Maestro died after the album was released and it could not be promoted but was picked up by a small indie label (Productions on Seaspeed LLC) and has reunited Evelyn and Calvin in a soon to be released double Big Band album in both Spanish and English (Release Date April, May 2014).
In 2009 Evelyn, along with Rick Lee, represented Houston in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Evelyn has jammed with the most talented musicians in Houston and recently with the Nick Gravenitis Band (Big Brother and the Holding Co. Electric Flag) Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield John Cippolina and Al Staehely Jr. She still gigs and records regularly with Al Staehely and his 10K'hrs band. Al Staehely, John Staehely and Mark Andes all played with the band "Spirit". Their combined band credits include Bob Dylan, Robert Palmer, Heart and Firefall.
Evelyn has dedicated her talent to recording and has just finished an album as a second lead singer on James "Boogaloo" Bolden's newly released No News "Jus The Blues". Mr Bolden is the current lead trumpet and Band leader for B.B.King (thirty plus years).
With dual-citizenship in Mexico and the United States, Evelyn Rubio is looking forward to the promotion and touring that accompanies her diverse musical talents. When Evelyn is not working, you can find her jamming at The Big Easy or Dan Electros.
